Bauchi senator dumps PDP for APC as 3 Kaduna Reps members join ruling party

The senator representing Bauchi North, Samaila Kaila, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Kaila’s letter during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The letter read: “I have the honour to respectfully notify all distinguished senators of my defection from the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from October 11 and joining the All Progressives Congress.

“This decision, though not taken lightly, follows extensive consultations with critical stakeholders, political associates, and my constituents from the Bauchi North Senatorial District.

“It has become evident that the prolonged internal divisions, recurring factionalisation and crisis, loss of strategic direction within the PDP, have gravely constrained my ability to discharge my constitutional responsibilities effectively and in good conscience.

“As one deeply committed to the service of our nation and the welfare of my people, I have found it necessary to realign my political engagements with a more progressive platform.

“I have chosen to join the All Progressives Congress and to lend my full commitment to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu.”

Meanwhile, three PDP members of the House of Representatives from Kaduna State on Tuesday defected to the ruling APC.

The defectors are Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South Federal Constituency), Aliyu Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency), Sadiq Abdullahi (Sabon Gari federal constituency).

Reading their defection letters during plenary, the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, said the lawmakers’ defection was due to an internal crisis in the PDP.

Abbas said: “They also highlighted the need to align forces with President Bola Tinubu to deliver the dividends of democracy to their respective constituents.

“The defectors pledged their full commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“They also pledged to promote unity and sustainable development in Kaduna State under the leadership of the Governor Uba Sani.”

The highlight of the defection was the presence of Governor Sani at the plenary.
