Buhari meets APC governors over presidential ticket

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, met with the governors elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting was held at the Council Chambers of the State House.

Others in attendance were APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff of the President, Ibrahim Gambari.

Although the agenda of the meeting had yet to be ascertained as of press time, it was however gathered that it may not be unconnected to the presidential primaries of the ruling party which has been scheduled to hold between June 6 and June 8, 2022.

The Star had earlier reported that President Buhari will on Tuesday (today) departs Abuja for Madrid, Spain on a visit at the invitation of the Spanish President, Pedro Sanchez.

This was disclosed via a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Adesina stated that Buhari, at a separate meeting during the visit, which is the first by the President, will also meet with the Head of State of the Spanish nation, His Majesty King Felipe VI.

The APC had on Monday commenced the screening of the presidential aspirants ahead of the 2023 general election.

The presidential hopefuls were screened by the screening committee led by the former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Some of the aspirants screened by the committee on Monday include the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa); the immediate past Ministers Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), Emeka Nwajiuba (State for Education); Senator representing Ondo-North, Sen. Ajayi Boroffice; Pastor Tunde Bakare, and Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye.

Others expected to be screened by the committee are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Ministers Godswill Akpabio (Niger Delta Affairs), Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), and Ikeobasi Mokelu (Information).

Others include Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Ben Ayade (Cross River); former Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Sani Yarima (Zamfara); a female aspirant, Uju Ohanenye; Nicholas Felix; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Tein Jack-Rich and a few others.
