Buhari’s burial rescheduled for Tuesday in Daura

The burial of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, according to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda.

Governor Radda made the announcement during a press briefing in Daura, Buhari’s hometown, shortly after returning from the United Kingdom. He stated that the funeral prayer (janaza) will now hold at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Daura.

“The janaza prayer for our father and former President, Muhammadu Buhari, will now take place tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, by 2:00 p.m. here in Daura,” Radda told reporters.

He explained that the postponement was made to allow the arrival of dignitaries, family members, and other well-wishers from within and outside Nigeria who wish to pay their final respects.

Radda assured that adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony for the late president, whom he described as “a true patriot and statesman who served Nigeria with honor and integrity.”

President Buhari passed away over the weekend after a brief illness, prompting a nationwide and international wave of condolences.

The Katsina State Government and the Buhari family have opened condolence registers in Daura, Abuja, and at Nigerian embassies abroad.

Security has been reinforced in and around Daura ahead of the funeral, which is expected to attract a large number of mourners, including top government officials, diplomats, and members of the public.
