Building collapse traps four in Kano

Rescue workers are searching for one person still trapped after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday morning in Kano State, leaving three others injured.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Sultan Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

According to eyewitnesses, construction workers were on site when the engineer noticed signs that the structure was becoming unstable and immediately warned everyone to evacuate.

While many of the workers escaped, four people, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle rider, were caught beneath the rubble when the building gave way.

One of the workers, Shuaibu Yaro, said emergency responders had rescued three victims from the debris, while efforts were continuing to locate and rescue the remaining person.

“We were carrying sand to the upper floor when the engineer noticed the building was about to collapse. We all ran out, but four people were trapped. Three of them have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person is still under the rubble,” he said.

The injured victims were taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Emergency personnel remained at the scene as rescue operations continued to free the last trapped victim and determine the cause of the collapse.
