Burna Boy, Davido, Asake lose all nominations at 2024 Grammy Awards

Nigerian singers, Burna Boy and Davido, have lost all of their nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The 66th Grammy Awards was held in Los Angeles, United States, on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Davido, who is a first-time Grammy nominee, was nominated in three categories, including ‘Best Global Album’ for his latest album, ‘Timeless’, while Burna Boy, a former winner, was nominated in four categories.

Popular Nigerian singer, Asake, equally earned a nomination in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for his song, ‘Amapiano ft Olamide’, while Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ was also nominated in the same category.

Davido also earned nominations in ‘Best African Music Performance’ for his song, ‘Unavailable’; and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his track, ‘Feel’.

He, however, lost the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category to Tyla’s ‘Water’, ‘Best Global Music Performance’ to ‘Pashto’ by Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia, and ‘Best Global Album’ to Shakti’s ‘The Moment’.

Burna Boy, on the other hand, was nominated in four categories, including ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for his song, ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World ft 21 Savage’; ‘Best African Music Performance’ for ‘City Boys’; ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for ‘Alone’; and ‘Best Global Album’ for his album, ‘I Told Them’.

The former winner who performed at the event on Sunday, however, lost out in all the categories.

He lost the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category to Tyla’s ‘Water’, and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ to ‘Pashto’ by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.

Shakti’s ‘The Moment’ won the ‘Best Global Album’ category, while ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ went to Lil Durk’s ‘All My Life’ featuring J Cole.

The ‘Last Last’ crooner’s fifth studio album, ‘Twice as Tall’, won Best World Music Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021.
