Chief of Staff: I was offered money to impeach Fubara

Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, says he was offered money to impeach his principal.

Ehie, the former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, disclosed this while speaking at a rally held recently in the Ahoada East area of the state.

The Chief of Staff, however, did not disclose the identities of those who offered him money to impeach Fubara.

He said: “They invited me, your son, to impeach the governor and I told them clearly, I was not interested.

“They gave me all the money that was hidden before, which I rejected. And because I refused, they conspired and declared me wanted.”

It would be recalled that Ehie was in 2023 declared wanted by the police over his alleged involvement in the burning of the State House of Assembly complex in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Court orders Fubara’s CoS’ arrest for burning Rivers Assembly

An explosion rattled the assembly complex amidst reports of lawmakers attempting to impeach Fubara in October 2023.

The lawmakers were identified as the supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, has been in a rift with Fubara, leading to a division in the House.

The minister recently described his successor as his mistake, saying he is ready to make corrections at the appropriate time.

He said: “I want to say this clearly, in life, we have made a mistake. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me.

“I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time.

“I am a human; I am bound to make a mistake. So forgive me for making a wrong judgment. So nobody should kill.”

The governor had earlier said there was nothing wrong in one helping another person, stressing that does not mean the helper should take the place of God.
