Christmas: Tinubu urges Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, religious tolerance

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and unity as Christians across the country celebrate Christmas.

In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message issued on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Tinubu urged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ and the enduring values of love, grace, hope, and peace associated with the season.

Tinubu extended Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, thanking God for the opportunity to serve as president and praying for peace, particularly among citizens of different religious beliefs.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious freedom, assuring Nigerians that the government remains determined to protect people of all faiths from violence and discrimination.

Tinubu commended Christians in Nigeria for their contributions to national development, noting that the teachings of Christ have inspired many to care for the vulnerable, promote harmony and foster peaceful coexistence in their communities.

He said the season serves as a reminder that despite challenges confronting the nation, faith and hope remain vital sources of strength.

Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s security, unity and stability, stressing that every Nigerian has the right to live, worship and pursue personal aspirations in safety and dignity, regardless of ethnicity or religious belief.

He stated: “As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence.

“No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith.”

The president disclosed that he had engaged religious leaders from both major faiths during the year, especially on issues of insecurity and intolerance, adding that such engagements would be strengthened to promote collaboration and prevent conflict.

Tinubu further enjoined Nigerians travelling during the festive period to exercise patience and obey traffic rules, wishing all travellers safe journeys.

Tinubu expressed confidence that with faith in God and collective effort, Nigerians would continue to build a stronger and more united country.

“I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance,” the president noted.
