Former President Goodluck Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united as the nation marks Christmas, urging citizens to draw strength from faith and resilience despite current economic and social challenges.
In his 2025 Christmas message, Jonathan said the season — which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ — serves as a reminder of God’s promise of peace, redemption and renewal.
“Christmas is a season that reminds us of the power of faith, humility and selfless service, and of the enduring light that shines even in times of uncertainty,” he said.
Acknowledging the hardships faced by many families across the country, the former president encouraged Nigerians not to give in to despair. He noted that history shows hope often becomes strongest when it is tested.
“Just as the birth of Christ brought a new dawn to a world in search of direction, our collective faith and resilience will see us triumph over our present trials,” Jonathan stated.
He also stressed the importance of peace, unity and national cohesion, describing them as the pillars on which a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria must be built.
“Our shared humanity and our willingness to live with compassion, mutual respect and responsibility toward one another remain the foundation of a stronger nation,” he added, urging Nigerians to use the festive season to promote goodwill and understanding.
Jonathan concluded his message by wishing Nigerians a peaceful and joyful Christmas, expressing hope that the New Year will bring renewed blessings for the nation.
