A Lagos court has ordered the remand of a man, Emeka Joseph, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over the alleged assault of an 18-year-old woman identified as Ezeka Chisom.
The Lagos State Police Command said the suspect was arrested following a domestic violence incident that gained attention on social media.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said investigations confirmed that Joseph allegedly assaulted the young woman, resulting in injuries to her face.
According to the police, the suspect was subsequently arraigned before a court, which ordered his remand pending further proceedings in the matter.
The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
He stressed that the police would continue to respond swiftly to reports of violence and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
The commissioner also urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station for appropriate action.
