The Federal High Court in Benin City has sacked Uyi Omosigho as the Nigerian Democratic Congress candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State, declaring Omo-Osagie Efosa, popularly known as Mighty Man, the authentic winner of the party’s primary.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice Chuka Obiozor directed the party to recognise Omo-Osagie as the winner and submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its candidate for the constituency.
The suit, marked FHC/B/C/60/2026, was filed by Omo-Osagie against Omosigho, the NDC, INEC, the party’s state chairman, David Olukoga, and Frederick Endorokeme Owotorufa, chairman of the party’s state primary and nominations committees.
The judge held that evidence before the court showed that Omo-Osagie participated in the primary election, as confirmed by the returning officers and chairmen of the 12 wards in Oredo Federal Constituency.
He said the party leadership failed to establish that Omosigho participated in and won the primary, unlike the plaintiff, whose participation was supported by evidence.
Obiozor also criticised what he described as frustrating practices by INEC in pre-election disputes, warning that internal party mechanisms for resolving primary election disagreements could be used to delay or frustrate aspirants seeking justice.
Reacting to the judgment, Omo-Osagie described it as a victory for the rule of law and thanked the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, for his support.
He also urged other aspirants to unite ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election to improve the party’s chances of victory.
