Court sends 74-year-old man to prison for raping teenager

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State has remanded a 74-year-old man, Aderinsola Addiths, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for defiling his neighbour’s teenage daughter.

The Chief Magistrate, O. O Kushanu, on Tuesday, May 6, refused to listen to Addiths’ plea and ordered him to be remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until May 20, 2025, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed in 2024 and February 2025 at the accused residence.

Ademigbuji said that the victim, a 13-year-old girl, was sent to buy sachet water by the 74-year-old man and upon her arrival, he shut the door after her.

The prosecutor said the septuagenarian defiled the girl.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
