A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Kafanchan area of Kaduna State has remanded a 44-year-old man, Yahuza Abubakar, in a correctional centre for defiling a five-year-old girl.
The court remanded Abubakar on Monday, July 29, 2024.
Abubakar is charged by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) with defilement, contrary to Section 258 of the Kaduna State Penal Code.
The NSCDC prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court that the victim’s mother, Mary Abashe, reported the matter at the corps’ office in Kafanchan on July 18.
Audu said Abubakar, who visited the complainant at Ungwan Rimi, dragged the girl into the kitchen and defiled her.

He said the man was caught in the act by a neighbour.
The presiding judge, Samson Kwasu, did not take the suspect’s plea for lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter.
Kwasu directed the prosecutor to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He, therefore, adjourned the matter until August 6, 2024, for further mention.
