Court sentences man to death for robbing Adamawa residents

A High Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has convicted and sentenced a 39-year-old man, Gambo Goni, to death for armed robbery.

Justice Kaynson S. Lawanson found Goni guilty on two counts of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, sentencing him accordingly.

He was, however, discharged on three other counts.

The conviction followed Goni’s arraignment over an armed robbery incident that occurred on October 4, 2014.

According to the prosecution, the convict and four others, who are still at large, allegedly stormed several homes in the Kofare area of Yola South Local Government Area while armed, robbing residents of cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

The victims were identified as Alhaji Lawan Suleiman, Alhaji Musa B. Umaru, Munir M.G., and Alhaji Ahmed Saibaru Shuaibu.

In his judgment, Justice Lawanson held that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to Goni’s conviction and sentence on the relevant counts.
