Dangote cement urges stakeholders to embrace mass housing for Nigerians

Dangote Cement Plc has called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s housing sector to embrace affordable mass housing schemes as a solution to the country’s growing housing deficit.

Speaking at the ongoing Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja, the company’s National Sales Director, Dolapo Alli, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts involving government agencies, private developers, and non-profit organizations to tackle the nation’s housing challenges.

“Addressing housing issues requires synergy among stakeholders. The government can leverage public-private partnerships (PPPs) to drive mass housing projects, while granting tax waivers and credits to construction firms to ease financing burdens,” Alli said.

He noted that mass housing is a proven strategy for easing housing shortages, especially in rapidly urbanizing nations, and praised the federal government’s Renewed Hope Housing Initiative for making strides in expanding access to affordable housing.

“While commendable progress has been made, Nigeria’s housing gap—estimated in the millions—demands a broader push. We need innovative financing, regulatory reform, and stronger public-private collaboration to meet rising demand,” he added.

Alli highlighted major obstacles hindering affordable housing delivery in Nigeria, including rapid urbanization, high land and construction costs, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to long-term financing, and insufficient housing data.

He urged all tiers of government to implement enabling policies and allocate land for mass housing developments.

Dangote Cement, a key sponsor of this year’s AIHS, reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that generate ideas, forge partnerships, and provide lasting shelter solutions for Nigerians. The event concludes on Friday, August 1, 2025.
