Destiny Etiko loses ₦5m betting on World Cup final

Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that she lost ₦5 million after placing a bet on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, saying the experience has convinced her to quit gambling.

Etiko disclosed this in a post on her Instagram page on Monday, shortly after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the tournament.

Reflecting on the loss, the actress wrote, “First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My 5M gone. In fact am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me.”

She did not disclose the specific bet she placed or explain how the loss occurred.

Before and during the final, Etiko shared updates on her Instagram Story showing her support for Argentina.

“Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?” she wrote before kick-off.

As the match wore on, she expressed frustration with the team’s performance, posting, “This ball tough o. Argentina is pissing me off.”

She also praised Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for keeping his side in the contest, writing, “The goal keeper is the savior oo.”

Spain eventually claimed a 1-0 victory after extra time, with substitute Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal to secure the country’s second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after its maiden triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Argentina finished the match with 10 men after midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off late in the game.
