DSS rescues abducted NSUK dean, arrests two suspects

The Department of State Services (DSS) has rescued the abducted Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Prof. Samuel Okunsebor, less than 48 hours after he was kidnapped by gunmen in Nasarawa State.

Prof. Okunsebor was abducted around midnight on Wednesday at Mile Uku, a boundary community between Lafia and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas, after armed men reportedly stormed the area and took him away.

According to security sources, DSS operatives launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the professor’s rescue at about 3 p.m. on Friday. He was rescued unharmed and later reunited with his family in the presence of senior university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kitso Ngbargu.

Following the rescue, the academic was taken to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital for medical evaluation after spending nearly two days in captivity.

The management of Nasarawa State University commended the DSS for what it described as a swift and professional operation that secured the dean’s release.

A senior university official, who spoke anonymously, expressed appreciation to the security agency for its efforts, saying the institution was grateful for the timely rescue of one of its senior academics.

The official also disclosed that two suspects, a man and a woman, had been arrested in connection with the abduction and are currently in DSS custody.

According to the source, investigations are ongoing to dismantle the kidnapping network and arrest other suspects believed to have participated in the crime.

The rescue has been welcomed by members of the university community and residents, who described it as a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat kidnapping in Nasarawa State.
