The Edo State House of Assembly has given the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) four months to address the persistent poor power supply in the state.
The directive was issued when BEDC management appeared before lawmakers over concerns about erratic electricity supply on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, said residents were dissatisfied with the company’s services and urged urgent improvements to avert possible mass protests.
Earlier, the BEDC Commercial Officer, Akinyele Ogunleye, blamed the poor supply on reduced electricity allocation from the national grid.

Ogunleye said the company received less than 300 megawatts to serve four states, noting the supply could not meet consumers’ needs.
In another development, the House confirmed Charles Onobvayo as Executive Director (Projects), Edo Ecological Funding and Management Commission.
