Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 10 suspects and impounded several trucks over alleged illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.
The arrests were carried out on Sunday, February 1, 2026, following credible intelligence on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation across parts of Kwara and Oyo states.
According to the anti-graft agency, the suspects, comprising nine truck drivers and one escort, were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation while transporting solid minerals suspected to have been illegally mined.
Minerals recovered from them include lithium, tin and lepidolite.
The EFCC said the suspects failed to produce the required licences, permits or regulatory approvals authorising their mining operations.
Several trucks loaded with the minerals were also seized during the operation.
The commission stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
