EFCC nabs two Metrodigital TV staff over illegal rebroadcast

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two staff members of Metrodigital Television Limited, operators of SLTV, for allegedly rebroadcasting DStv and GOtv content without authorization.

The operation, conducted on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, followed a preservation order issued by the Federal High Court empowering the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies to seize equipment and documents linked to the alleged piracy. The order was granted by Justice Adamu Mohammed.

EFCC operatives stormed the company’s office at No. 12 Order Street, Rumuola, Stadium Link Road, GRA Phase IV, Port Harcourt, where they confiscated broadcasting machines, decoders, transmission equipment, servers, and documents suspected to contain records of signal manipulation.

According to EFCC sources, two staff members—identified as Chinedu Nwaikwu, a director, and Uche Kanu, an engineer—were arrested during the raid. “They were caught with 22 decoders being used for illegal transmission at the time of arrest,” a source said.

The court’s order directed the EFCC to secure and label all items connected with the unauthorized rebroadcast of DStv and GOtv channels as exhibits for trial. A detailed seizure report, including photographs and serial numbers of the confiscated equipment, is expected to be submitted to the court.

The order also restrained Metrodigital Television Ltd, its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi John Nwafor, and its associated companies—Denna Rossi Limited, Kristal Food and Beverages, and QTV Plus Limited—from further accessing or transmitting DStv and GOtv content pending the determination of the case.

Additionally, the court mandated law enforcement agencies to serve the injunction on all defendants, shut down any ongoing unauthorized signal feeds, and monitor compliance to prevent further violations.
