The Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has dismissed a secondary school teacher, Owoosi Gbenga, for allegedly impregnating a 17-year-old SS3 student preparing for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
It was gathered that the teacher, who taught Economics at Alarelu Comprehensive High School in Igbara Odo-Ekiti, was found guilty of serious misconduct and criminal offence after a thorough investigation by the
TESCOM Disciplinary Committee.
According to the committee’s findings, Owoosi had previous bad records, including collaborating with students to steal laptop computers belonging to the school.
The Chairman of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Babatunde Abegunde, confirmed the development to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Abegunde stated that the commission followed due process before dismissing the teacher, stressing that the decision would serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar unethical act.
The disciplinary committee also recommended that all teachers be sensitised on the Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law 2019 and other related issues, and that schools be closely monitored to uphold moral norms and ethical standards.
A board member of the commission, who is also the chairman of the disciplinary committee, Jumoke Owoola, described the accused as a bad egg capable of contaminating his students and fellow teachers.
