Electricity workers under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) have suspended their nationwide strike.
This was made known via a statement issued by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Olajide Oshundun, on Wednesday.
Oshundun noted that the suspension of the strike followed the electricity workers’ meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Wednesday.
“The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has apprehended the strike embarked upon by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) following an emergency meeting between the union, government, and other stakeholders, at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.
“Dr Ngige set up a tripartite committee to look into the grievances of electricity workers towards addressing them,” the statement partly read.

Oshundun added that the union’s secretary general, Joe Ajaero, has “assured the minister that all necessary steps would be taken to restore the supply of electricity to the country immediately.”
The Star had reported that electricity workers under the aegis of the NUEE embarked on a nationwide strike on Wednesday.
The workers are protesting the non-payment of outstanding arrears owed to former workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
NUEE is also protesting suspension of conditions of service and career path for workers and the directive by the TCN board to conduct promotion interviews for acting principal managers who are moving to Assistant General Managers, among others.
