Ex-Kano deputy gov used son to collect LG funds — Gov’s spokesman

The Director General of Media and Publicity to Kano State Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has alleged that former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, used his eldest son, Mujahid, to collect funds from the 44 local government councils in the state.

Bature reportedly made the allegation during a political gathering held in Kano on June 13, 2026, where he claimed that monies referred to as “Awwalaja” were channelled through Mujahid Gwarzo and eventually handed over to his father.

The governor’s aide further alleged that the funds were used to acquire plots of land and farmlands.

The allegations have since sparked controversy, with videos of the speech circulating on social media and generating widespread reactions.

However, neither the Kano State Government nor Sunusi Bature has publicly released documentary evidence to substantiate the claims.

Reacting to the allegations, Mujahid Gwarzo, through his lawyer, Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse, petitioned the Kano State Commissioner of Police, accusing Bature of defamation of character.

The petition described the allegations as false and damaging, arguing that the circulation of the speech on social media had tarnished his reputation and exposed him to public ridicule.

Similarly, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the former deputy governor challenged his accuser to present credible and verifiable evidence to support the claims.

As of the time of filing this report, no investigative agency or court has established that local government funds were diverted through Mujahid Gwarzo, and the allegations remain unproven.
