The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Usman Yusuf, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in the Kuje area of Abuja for alleged fraud.
Yusuf was arraigned on a five-count amended charge bordering on alleged fraud on Monday, February 3, 2025.
The former NHIS boss pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
The defence counsel, O.I Habeeb, requested that his client be remanded in the custody of the EFCC pending the hearing of the bail application.
The presiding judge, Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu, said once Yusuf was arraigned, he ceased to be in the custody of the EFCC.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned the case to February 12, 2025, and ordered that Yusuf be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, pending the hearing of his bail application.
Yusuf is being accused of using his office to confer undue advantages to himself between 2016 and 2017.
The former NHIS Executive Secretary also allegedly awarded contracts without following the due procurement process.
