Fayemi denies reports of secret meeting with Kwankwaso

Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed claims that he recently held a closed-door meeting with former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, at his Abuja residence.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of his Media Office, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described the report as false and misleading, urging the public to ignore it.

The claim, which circulated on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, was accompanied by an old video showing Fayemi welcoming Kwankwaso at his home. According to the statement, the video was wrongly used to suggest a private political engagement.

Clarifying the situation, Fayemi said he has met Kwankwaso only once in the past year, and that encounter took place at the public book launch of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN.

“At no time has Dr Fayemi held, or is he holding, any closed-door political meeting with Senator Kwankwaso as suggested,” the statement said.

While acknowledging a long-standing friendship with Kwankwaso dating back to their days as governors, Fayemi stressed that the relationship is personal and non-partisan, founded on mutual respect and a shared commitment to Nigeria’s development rather than political alignment.

He also warned against attempts to politicise personal relationships, noting that his network of friends and associates cuts across different political parties and includes many who are not involved in partisan politics.

The statement reaffirmed Fayemi’s commitment to national unity, principled engagement, and responsible public discourse.
