FCTA equips general hospitals with vein-finding devices

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has distributed 48 vein-finding devices to general hospitals under the Hospitals Management Board (HMB) to enhance healthcare delivery across the territory.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the equipment was provided by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, described the devices as essential tools aimed at improving patient care and increasing the efficiency of medical procedures.

According to her, the vein finders help healthcare professionals easily locate veins for intravenous (IV) access and blood sample collection, reducing multiple needle attempts and improving outcomes, especially for children, elderly patients, and individuals with difficult vein access.

She noted that the devices would make procedures quicker, less painful, and less stressful for patients, while also enabling newly trained doctors to perform IV insertions more effectively.

Fasawe added that the technology would enhance clinical accuracy by helping to assess superficial vein patterns, ultimately improving overall service delivery in hospitals.

As part of the rollout, healthcare personnel from the benefiting facilities received hands-on training on the proper use, maintenance, and safe handling of the equipment to ensure optimal utilization and long-term sustainability.

The initiative, she said, reflects the FCT Administration’s commitment to modernising healthcare facilities, improving patient experience, and supporting medical professionals with advanced tools for quality service delivery.
