Female senator defeats ex-gov Bindow, Ribadu in Adamawa

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Aishatu Binani, has emerged the winner of the party’s gubernatorial primaries in the state.

Binani, a senator representing Adamawa Central, defeated a former governor of Adamawa State, Jibrilla Bindow, to clinch the APC governorship ticket.

Among the aspirants was also a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu.

Binani, who was the only female aspirant in the APC governorship primaries, was declared winner of the election held in Yola, the Adamawa State capital on Thursday after polling 430 votes.

Ex-EFCC boss, Ribadu, came second with 288, while Bindow emerged the second runner-up with 103 votes.

In her acceptance speech, Binani expressed her appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in her.

She further called on other aspirants to work together for the victory of the party in the 2023 general election, saying: “I call on all of us to ensure the victory of our party and to have a government of our own.”

However, Binani will slug it out in the 2023 gubernatorial election with the incumbent governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, who emerged the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries held on Wednesday.

Fintiri, who was unopposed in the primaries following the disqualification of Jamil Waziri by the PDP screening committee, is seeking a second term in office.
