FG to launch 12-month paid fellowship for unemployed graduates nationwide

The Federal Government is set to launch a 12-month paid fellowship under the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) to provide unemployed graduates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with practical work experience and job readiness skills.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia, announced this at a press briefing in Abuja ahead of the official launch scheduled for Wednesday at the State House Conference Centre, to be presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Hadejia said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by addressing youth unemployment and promoting national productivity.

“The 12-month paid fellowship offers graduates meaningful work placements in both the public and private sectors, with a monthly stipend of ₦150,000,” he stated.

“It provides participants with critical skills and experience to overcome the economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The programme is jointly supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The EU has committed €44 million to support the NJFP, while the UNDP reaffirmed its partnership to strengthen institutions and expand opportunities for Nigerian youths.

According to Hadejia, the fellowship benefits both participants and employers.

Organisations gain access to skilled personnel and reduced recruitment costs, while fellows acquire valuable experience that can lead to permanent employment, entrepreneurship, or other professional pursuits.

“At the end of the programme, host organisations may choose to retain fellows, or the participants may venture into business, creating more job opportunities for others,” he added.

With the combined support of the Federal Government, EU, and UNDP, the NJFP aims to empower young Nigerians, enhance workforce capacity, and foster inclusive economic growth across the country.
