The Kogi State Police Command has identified a female student found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway as a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja.
The deceased, Sarah Idoko, was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja, where she was allegedly dumped by unknown assailants.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle stop briefly at the scene around 8 p.m. before speeding off. Passers-by later found the body by the roadside and alerted security operatives.
Initial reports had suggested that the victim was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic after an identity card bearing her name was recovered at the scene. The card indicated she was enrolled in a Higher National Diploma programme in the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.
However, police later clarified that Idoko was a student of the Federal University Lokoja.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.
He assured residents that the findings of the investigation would be made public and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim.
Reacting to the incident, the Association of Nigeria Female Students (Kogi State Chapter) condemned the killing, describing it as tragic and unacceptable.
In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.
The group also urged authorities to strengthen security around campuses and student communities, noting that the Felele corridor has recorded several security concerns in recent years.
