Fire destroys 17 tricycles, two petrol tankers in Kano

At least 17 tricycles and two petrol tankers were destroyed in separate fire incidents at filling stations in Kano State on Tuesday.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incidents in a statement on Wednesday.

The first fire occurred around 8:45 pm at AA Ayagi Filling Station in Kanye Village, Gwarzo Road, Kabo LGA. A fuel tanker belonging to AA Ayagi Company, with registration number XPB 999 FA, caught fire while offloading petrol. Two compartments had already been emptied into an underground tank, but the remaining three, containing roughly 5,000 litres of petroleum, ignited, destroying the tanker.

The second fire erupted at Al-Wahida Nigeria Limited petrol station in Rimin Kebe, Karshen Kwalta, Nassarawa LGA. A petrol tanker from BA Bello Company, carrying about 45,000 litres of fuel, caught fire during offloading. The blaze destroyed the tanker’s head and part of its body, and 17 tricycles were completely burnt. Authorities said a portion of the fuel and the tanker body was saved.

In a separate incident, a fire at Kundila Quarters, near SALSA College, destroyed a room, a toilet, and a corridor in a residential building.

Kano State Fire Service Director Sani Anas urged filling station operators and fuel tanker drivers to strictly follow safety protocols when handling flammable materials.

This follows a similar blaze on Sunday at the Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ogun State, where fire spread from an industrial facility to nearby residential areas.
