Five killed, house razed in cross-border attack in Benue

Five persons have been killed and a house destroyed following a late-night attack on Azoke village in Ado Local Government Area.

Sources said the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on February 19 when suspected assailants from Akparata community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, allegedly invaded the village.

The victims were identified as Nwefuru Elu, Nwefuru Agnes, Nwali Nworie Christianana, Obasi Nwode and Nwozo Nwode.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly set ablaze a house belonging to Elumu Nwokwo, escalating tension within the affected community.

Security personnel who responded to a distress call visited the scene and documented evidence as part of preliminary investigations.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible, while further inquiries had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the violence.

Residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as measures are being intensified to prevent further escalation in the area of Benue State.
