A forest guard has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting his son dead at an internally displaced persons’ camp in Monguno, Borno State.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 5:40 p.m. on February 13 at the RRR IDPs Camp in the area.
The case was reported shortly after 6:20 p.m. at the Monguno Divisional Police headquarters by Maidugu Mustapha of Gana Ali Ward.
He alleged that Mohammed Ibrahim Angoli, 28, a member of the Forest Guard, shot his 24-year-old son, Ajiya Mustapha, in the back with an AK-47 rifle.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team to the scene, where officers documented evidence and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital in Monguno.
A doctor on duty confirmed the victim dead on arrival.
The body was later deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Police have arrested the suspect and recovered the firearm used in the incident as evidence.
The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri, which has begun a full investigation.
