A French national, Pietier Gilles, has been found dead in a hotel room in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that 67-year-old Gilles was found dead on Saturday at Hotel Jovina in Gboko, where he had lodged on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Gilles, a tourist, was said to have taken ill on Saturday but declined to be taken to a hospital.
Concerned about his deteriorating condition, the hotel management brought in a medical practitioner to examine him, but he was already dead.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Edet disclosed that the hotel manager, Emmanuel Laha, reported the incident to the police on Sunday.
The police spokesperson added that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
