The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has released the list of 122 universities approved to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Nigeria as of August 2026.
The council warned prospective students, parents and guardians against enrolling in Law programmes at institutions that have not been accredited, stressing that graduates of unapproved programmes will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
In a public notice issued on Monday and dated August 14, 2026, the CLE said only universities accredited by the council are authorised to admit students into the LL.B programme.
It warned that universities admitting students into unapproved Law programmes would be acting contrary to the laws regulating legal education in Nigeria and could face sanctions.
The council also identified some universities currently under moratorium on admission, meaning they are temporarily barred from admitting new students into their Law programmes.
Baze University, Abuja, was placed under a three-year moratorium covering the 2023/2024 to 2025/2026 academic sessions. Lead City University, Ibadan, has a five-year moratorium covering 2023/2024 to 2027/2028, while the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, is under a two-year moratorium covering the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions.
