The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State has listed Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, among the dignitaries to be conferred with Honoris Causa at the 8th convocation of the institution.

Also to be honoured by FUOYE are the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Solomon Adeola, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gadgi.

The university stated this in a statement by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee, Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, on Tuesday, January 16.

The university’s convocation has been scheduled to be held from February 5 to February 10, 2024.

The statement read in part: “The university will be hosting prominent personalities in Nigeria in the forthcoming 8th Convocation ceremony.

“The personalities are Senate President, Godswill Akpabio as the Special Guest of honour; Majority Leader of the Senate, Sen. Michael Bamidele; Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Sen. Solomon Adeola Yayi; and Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Mr Yusuf Gadgi; among others.

“The invited dignitaries would be conferred with Honoris Causa of the university while several deserving and distinguished Nigerians would also be honoured in recognition of their sterling contributions towards adding values to the country and humanity.”

Opoola noted that the ceremony would start with an exhibition of products and services by each faculty and free healthcare services by the university medical centre team on February 5.

He added: “On February 7, there will be a repeat of free health care services for the Ikole-Ekiti community and the inauguration of projects at the Ikole campus.

“The projects include 32 rooms, professorial office building and new university library and official Induction of Engineering students will round up the activities for the third day.”

Opoola stated that the FUOYE Founder’s Day speech would be delivered by Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), on February 8, adding that the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, will deliver a convocation lecture on February 10.
