“God abeg” — Filmmaker cries out after losing $2,500 to fake FRSC link

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Adekanla Desalu has recounted how he allegedly lost $2,500 after clicking on a fraudulent link impersonating the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Desalu said he initially believed he was paying a ₦2,500 road traffic fine but discovered that $2,500 had been deducted after he followed the link.

The actor disclosed the incident in a video shared on Instagram, where he urged Nigerians to exercise caution when responding to links received through text messages or emails.

“From ₦2,500 to $2,500 God abeg,” Desalu captioned the video.

He further warned members of the public against clicking links without first confirming their authenticity.

“PSA please DO NOT click on any links you get via SMS or Email without double/triple checking it is LEGIT. You can’t be too careful,” he wrote.

Desalu’s account came amid a warning by the Federal Road Safety Corps over a fraudulent message being circulated to motorists.

The FRSC had disowned a viral notification informing recipients that they had committed road traffic violations and directing them to a website to pay fines.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the corps described the message as fraudulent and advised motorists not to click on the accompanying link.

The warning followed concerns raised by a social media user who shared details of a text message notifying him of an alleged road traffic violation.

According to the FRSC, the website identified as “frscgov.top/ng” was not affiliated with the agency and was being used to impersonate the corps.

The agency said its official website is “frsc.gov.ng”, urging motorists to rely only on its authorised digital platforms and official communication channels.

Desalu was born in Lagos on November 7, 1980. He studied actuarial science at the University of Lagos before obtaining an MBA in artificial intelligence from Nexford University.
