Gov Yusuf reaches out to Kano APC leaders after talks with Tinubu stall

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has intensified engagements with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state following the collapse of reported talks with President Bola Tinubu over his potential defection.

Mr. Yusuf is said to have contacted top APC stakeholders in Kano to discuss possible cooperation amid ongoing political realignment. His outreach comes after what sources described as unsuccessful discussions with President Tinubu aimed at finalising his return to the ruling party.

The governor’s reported move follows weeks of speculation over a shift from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, a development that has stirred debate among political figures in the state. Some APC leaders in Kano have publicly welcomed the idea of the governor joining their ranks, saying his inclusion could strengthen the party’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, tensions persist within NNPP circles, with national party figures denying they have endorsed any defection and insisting Yusuf remains a member of the party on whose platform he was elected.

Observers say the governor’s consultations with APC leaders reflect an evolving political landscape in Kano, where alliances and party loyalties are under intense negotiation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
