Gumel LGA chairman Lawan Ya’u dies at 61 in Kano

The Chairman of Gumel Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, has passed away at the age of 61.

Ya’u died on the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2025, at a private hospital in Kano State after a brief illness. Family sources revealed that he was rushed to the hospital on Friday following a suspected heart attack and died the next day while receiving treatment.

Before his election as Gumel LGA Chairman in August 2024, Ya’u was well known for his active role in civil society activities across Jigawa State.

He is survived by two wives and several children.

His funeral prayer is scheduled for Sunday morning in Gumel, a historic town in Jigawa State.
