Gunmen abduct three FULafia students

Three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have been abducted by gunmen from their off-campus residence in the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The students were reportedly kidnapped at about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday at Sure Leaders Lodge, located near the university.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said security operatives had launched a manhunt to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.

He said no arrests had been made, but investigations had made significant progress.

“So far, no arrest has been made, but efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe release. We have carried out underground operations, and we expect to secure their release soon,” he said.

Nansel added that security agencies had identified some suspects and were awaiting further confirmation before taking action.

“We have some people we have pencilled down who have been recognised, but we are waiting for confirmation. With what is going on, they will soon be out of that place,” he added.

A student of the university, who requested anonymity, said the victims were all 100-level students and described the incident as part of a growing security challenge affecting the university community.

According to the student, recurring cases of kidnapping have heightened fear among students living in off-campus hostels.

“The issue of kidnapping in this environment has become a serious concern. We are appealing to the government to deploy more security personnel around the university because students are no longer safe,” the source said.

The latest abduction has raised fresh concerns among students and parents over security around private hostels located outside the university campus.

Officials in the university’s Information Unit said they were not aware of the reported abduction but confirmed that they had received information about a separate attack involving a female student.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of the Federal University of Lafia had not issued an official statement on the incident.
