Gunmen kill DPO, injure policeman in Delta

Gunmen have killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Police Division in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the gunmen also shot the DPO of Ororoekpe Police Division in the state.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Edafe disclosed that the two DPOs were on an operation with some police officers when the gunmen laid ambush and shot at them.

He said the DPO of Ororoekpe Division sustained injury and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The police spokesman said the police were already on the trail of the assailants.

Edafe further disclosed that some youths went on a rampage and set properties ablaze at Onitcha Olona in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Edafe said the incident occurred after a community member was allegedly beaten to death by an alleged land grabber whom they claimed forcefully took possession of land in the community.

He said some community leaders opposed this move which eventually led to the violence that claimed one life.

The police spokesperson added that three persons have been arrested in connection with the crime, noting that investigations were ongoing.
