Gunmen kill husband, abduct wife in Chibok community

Suspected kidnappers have attacked Takulashe village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a 56-year-old man and abducting his wife.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026, when the assailants stormed the victim’s home and began shooting.

The man, identified as Bla Abakar Maulud, was hit during the attack.

The gunmen later seized his wife, 48-year-old Maimuna Shaibu, and escaped to an unknown location.

Authorities said the case was reported the following morning, after which security personnel, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Chibok, visited the area.

Maulud was taken to the General Hospital in Chibok, where he was confirmed dead, and his remains were released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Security agencies have launched search-and-rescue operations to find the abducted woman, while investigations into the attack are ongoing.
