The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has asked the state government to provide evidence backing allegations that he diverted local government funds through his son.
Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, was reacting to claims allegedly made by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who accused him of receiving diverted council funds via his son, Mujahid.
In a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo dismissed the allegation as false and politically motivated.
He described the claim as “figments of imagination” and insisted it had no factual basis.
“We categorically challenge the accuser to provide credible and verifiable evidence to substantiate these callous claims,” the statement read. “Mere accusations, no matter how often repeated in the media, do not amount to proof.”
Gwarzo maintained that he has consistently upheld transparency and accountability throughout his public service career, adding that the allegation was an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
He further described the accusation as baseless and damaging, expressing confidence that the truth would eventually emerge.
The former Deputy Governor urged the public to disregard the claims, insisting they were unfounded and politically driven.
