Hilda Baci partners GBfoods for world’s largest jollof rice attempt

GBfoods Nigeria, makers of the Gino brand, has teamed up with celebrity chef Hilda Baci to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest pot of Jollof rice ever cooked.

The historic cook-off, slated for September 12, will see Baci prepare the iconic West African dish in a specially built six-metre-wide pot.

The event is expected to draw chefs, food lovers, cultural icons, and enthusiasts from across the country.

Explaining the company’s choice of Baci for the partnership, Marketing Director Oreoluwa Atinmo described the initiative as a celebration of “the resilient Nigerian spirit that never settles.”

She added that the free-to-attend cook-off would serve as “a convergence of culture and history,” creating unforgettable memories while reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a culinary leader in Africa.

Atinmo noted that “The love and support we’ve received has been truly overwhelming, especially as Nigerians look forward to watching Hilda Baci go after an audacious dream.

A tremendous amount of time, effort, and planning has gone into this moment, which is another opportunity for our nation to come together in the name of passion, perseverance, and, of course, great food.”

Baci, who shot to global fame in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, said the record attempt is not just about food, but about celebrating Nigeria’s heritage.

“Jollof rice is more than just food; it is a symbol of who we are, our resilience, and the stories we tell through our culture.

“This event is about celebrating our identity and the flavours that unite us as Nigerians and Africans,” she said.

She invited Nigerians to join her and Gino in making history, describing the project as “an honour” and a dream come true.

The cook-off adds to Nigeria’s growing wave of world record attempts, underscoring the nation’s creativity, determination, and pride.

If successful, it will not only secure another spot for Nigeria in the Guinness Book of Records but also strengthen the country’s claim in the long-running “Jollof supremacy” debate.
