How explosive triggers panic in Tambuwal area of Sokoto

Residents of Jabo village in the Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into panic on Thursday night following a loud explosion suspected to have been caused by an explosive device.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened suddenly, with an object believed to be an explosive reportedly landing in the community.

No deaths or injuries were recorded, as the device did not detonate in a crowded area.

A resident who spoke about the incident said the loud sound caused fear among villagers, many of whom initially thought the community was under attack.

“It happened suddenly at night. The explosion frightened everyone, but we thank God it did not land where people were gathered,” the resident said.

Security agencies have been notified and authorities have begun investigations to determine what the object was and how it got to the area.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether it was an explosive device.

Residents have been advised to stay calm and cooperate with security personnel while investigations continue.

Tambuwal Local Government Area has largely remained peaceful, making the incident worrying for locals who are calling for increased surveillance and stronger security presence in rural communities.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by security authorities.

Speculation linking the incident to recent international security discussions remains unconfirmed, and officials are urging the public to await verified information.
