Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has joked about his limited knowledge of some of Nigeria’s biggest contemporary entertainment personalities, saying he does not know music executive Don Jazzy, dancer Poco Lee or content creator Carter Efe.
Obasanjo made the remarks during an appearance on comedian Isbae U’s podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask, on Saturday.
The former president was asked whether he knew the three entertainers, but said he was unfamiliar with them.
When the host suggested that the celebrities probably knew Obasanjo despite his not knowing them, the former president responded with a joke.
“So you know people that I don’t know,” Obasanjo said. “Maybe because they are not important people, that’s why.”
Obasanjo then contrasted his circle of acquaintances with the contemporary entertainment figures mentioned by the host.
He recalled meeting prominent international figures, including the late Queen Elizabeth II, whom he said he had received in Nigeria.
The former president also mentioned King Charles III, saying he had held private meetings with him.
The exchange provided a light-hearted moment as Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, reflected on the different generations and spheres of public life represented by himself and the entertainers.
