Six die as truck, commercial vehicle collide in Kogi

Six people have died and two others sustained injuries after a truck collided with a commercial vehicle on the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The crash occurred on Saturday, with residents of Odo-Ape reportedly joining efforts to rescue victims trapped in the vehicles.

The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident.

Fagge said preliminary findings indicated that speeding contributed to the crash, while urging motorists to exercise caution when using the road.

“It is unfortunate that six persons lost their lives as a result of this tragic incident involving a truck and another vehicle along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road,” he said.

He advised motorists to avoid excessive speed and unnecessary overtaking, particularly on busy highways.

“I can confirm that six persons lost their lives, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Fagge added.

The sector commander also warned drivers against travelling when fatigued, stressing that adequate rest and responsible driving were essential to reducing road crashes.

The bodies of the deceased were reportedly taken to the morgue at the General Hospital, Kabba, while the injured victims received medical attention.
