‘I sweep, mop, they still abuse me’: Man’s final video sparks probe

A 28-year-old garment trader, Rahul Khosla, was found dead after allegedly taking his own life inside his shop in the Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad, India, on Sunday, June 28, after posting a video on Instagram accusing his wife and her family of physical abuse and persistent harassment.

According to police, Rahul, who lived in Sector 3 Housing Board Colony, left home on Sunday morning after meeting his mother and headed to his garment shop, which he had opened about four months ago.

The incident came to light around 11 a.m. when his brother, Amit, saw the video on Instagram and rushed to the shop with other relatives. They forced open the locked entrance and found Rahul unresponsive inside. Police later recovered the body and transferred it to BK Civil Hospital for an autopsy.

In the video recorded before his death, Rahul alleged that his wife, Jyoti, also known as Preeti, along with her mother Veena, father Bittu and sister Neetu, had subjected him to continuous physical and emotional abuse since their love marriage two years ago.

He claimed that despite carrying out household chores such as sweeping, mopping and washing dishes, he was repeatedly assaulted by his wife. Rahul also alleged that she insisted they live separately from his parents and had recently filed a false assault case against him, which he said left him under severe emotional distress.

In his final message, Rahul appealed for legal action against his wife and her family. He also requested that his property be passed on to his mother, siblings and other family members.

Following a complaint by Rahul’s relatives and the allegations contained in the video, Sector 3 Police registered a case against his wife, her parents and her sister.

Investigating officer Ajeet Singh said a detailed investigation has commenced and that authorities are verifying the claims made in the video.
