ICPC questions Gbajabiamila over PFIPC scandal

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has questioned the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.

Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed on Monday that the presidential aide honoured the commission’s invitation and appeared before investigators at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the commission around 3 p.m., where he provided a statement and answered questions relating to the ongoing investigation before returning to his official duties.

“In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and appeared at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the PFIPC fake agency, among others,” the statement read.

“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post.”

President Bola Tinubu had on July 2 directed the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the President instructed the anti-graft agency to conclude its investigation and submit a detailed report within 30 days.

The PFIPC controversy erupted after an alleged non-existent agency was discovered to have been included in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budgetary allocation, prompting investigations by anti-corruption agencies and lawmakers.
