IGP orders increased security around Katsina schools

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to intensify security measures around schools across the state to protect students, teachers and educational facilities from security threats.

The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State.

Speaking during the visit, Abdul said the police had been instructed to strengthen surveillance, increase patrols around schools, enhance intelligence gathering and maintain a visible security presence at educational institutions across the state.

He said the initiative was aimed at deterring criminal activities, improving emergency response capabilities and ensuring that schools remain safe and conducive environments for learning.

As part of the assessment exercise, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area, where he inspected existing security arrangements and infrastructure.

During the inspection, Abdul examined perimeter fencing, entry and exit points, security posts and the deployment of police personnel assigned to protect the schools.

He also held separate meetings with school administrators and management teams to obtain first-hand information on security concerns and challenges facing the institutions.

The discussions focused on improving school safety, strengthening collaboration between educational authorities and security agencies, and enhancing preparedness against potential threats.

The DIG urged school authorities to enforce stricter access-control measures, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities within and around school premises to security agencies.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting educational institutions and ensuring that students and teachers can carry out their activities without fear.
