India, Nigeria bolster defence ties with high-level army meeting

Nigeria’s defence cooperation with India received a fresh boost on Tuesday following a courtesy visit by the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

During the engagement, Colonel Singh praised the Nigerian Army for its ongoing efforts to tackle security challenges nationwide and thanked the COAS for the warm reception.

He reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding defence collaboration, including enhanced training programmes for Nigerian troops and deeper technical exchanges between both militaries.

Responding, Lieutenant General Shaibu described India as a longstanding and dependable partner in military training, capacity development, and defence cooperation.

He underscored the need to strengthen joint efforts in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, equipment support, and professional military education.

The visit featured the exchange of souvenirs between both officials, symbolising continued friendship and cooperation.

Colonel Singh also signed the visitors’ register before participating in a group photograph with senior army officers.
