The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved the promotion of 2,339 personnel in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reaffirming its commitment to career development, institutional continuity and organisational stability.

The decision was taken at the commission’s meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi.

As part of the exercise, 82 Chief Officers on Grade Levels 14–15 were promoted to the rank of Assistant Directors.

Similarly, 91 Assistant Directors on Grade Levels 15–16 advanced to the position of Deputy Directors.

At the directorate level, 45 Deputy Directors on Grade Levels 16–17 were elevated to Directors. Of this number, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are scheduled to retire shortly after their promotion in line with public service regulations.

The promotion exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on Grade Levels 07–13 across various departments of the commission.

According to the statement, the promotions spanned multiple cadres and were conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules.

The commission noted that the exercise reflects its resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service, while strengthening leadership capacity across its structures as preparations continue for future electoral engagements.

It congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and impartiality in the discharge of their duties.
